Your starter prompt to build a blog with Claude

April 2026

The best way to start a blog with Claude is not to ask it to build one. It is to have a conversation about what you want, let the decisions emerge naturally, and then ask Claude to do the technical work once you know what you are aiming for.

This post gives you a prompt you can copy and paste straight into Claude to get started. It also explains what to decide before you begin, so the conversation uses your energy well rather than going round in circles.

Before you start — five things to decide

Write these down first, even roughly. You can change them later but settling them before the conversation saves a lot of energy.

1. What is your blog about?
One or two sentences. What are you going to write, and who is it for?

2. What name do you want to use?
Your real name, a pen name, or first name only. Decide your anonymity level now.

3. What will you call the blog?
Just a working title is fine. You can refine it in conversation.

4. What sections do you want?
Most blogs work well with two or three sections. For example: personal posts, practical tips, and a deeper thinking section. Or just one if you want to keep it simple.

5. What are your anonymity rules?
What will you say and not say about yourself, your family, your location, your condition? Decide this before you start and tell Claude at the beginning.

The starter prompt

Copy and paste this into Claude. Fill in the parts in square brackets with your own answers.

I want to start a blog and I need your help to set it up and write content for it.

Here is what I have decided so far:

What the blog is about: [one or two sentences]

My name or pen name: [what you want to be called]

Blog title: [working title, can be changed]

Sections I want: [list them, or say you are not sure and want help deciding]

My anonymity rules: [what you will and will not share — for example, first name only, no town, partner not named]

I am using WordPress.com as my platform and I have Claude’s WordPress connector enabled.

I would like you to help me think through anything I have not decided yet, then start building. Please begin by reading back what I have told you and checking if anything is missing before we start.

What happens next

Claude will read back your answers, ask about anything unclear, and then suggest a plan. From there you work through it together — the homepage, the about page, the sections, the first posts.

Talk through ideas before asking Claude to write anything. The more you say about what you want to say, the more the writing will sound like you.

Tell Claude when something does not sound right. It will change it. That is what it is for.

When something is not working after two attempts, say: simpler. Claude will try increasingly clever solutions when the straightforward one was available all along.

What you will need set up beforehand

A WordPress.com account with a paid plan (around £3-4 a month).

The Claude connector enabled in Claude’s settings — go to Settings, Connections, and add WordPress.com.

A Craft account if you want to use it as a drafting space. It connects to Claude the same way.

A separate email address for the blog if you want to keep it anonymous. A free Gmail account takes five minutes.

That is everything. The rest happens in conversation.

This blog was built exactly this way, from scratch, in two days of morning conversations. The prompt above is a cleaner version of how it started.
